2008 Fresh faces Bellydancers in Japan

There are many dancers in Japan that have a long history & well established roots in belly dance. Many have taught, performed at events worldwide & even opened popular studios. Since Bellydancer.jp is a new site we decided it would be good to introduce some of the faces that we started seeing more of in 2008 & we predict will make an impact on Japan’s belly dance industry in the years to come.

Chika Sugitana

Already famous in Japan as an illustrator, Chika is a multi talented business woman. Owner of AALANJU Belly dance studio which just opened a new studio located in Harajuku in Tokyo. Chika in 2008 has brought out pure beauty in belly dance to Japanese women. Chika has greatly helped shape belly dance & fitness together in fitness centers all over Tokyo. She has recently also released a popular belly dance book & DVD, & we just came back from her 1st belly dance musical. We expect to see more from Chika who is looking to combine belly dance & other arts together.

Blooming Rose
Blooming Rose are an adorable duo, that you would swear had their own marketing team behind them. Namiko & Kano, & are two of the most free spirited dancers that I’ve seen. Blooming Rose came together as a unit in January 2006 but this year we’ve seen traces of them all over the web, TV, & magazines. I expect them to increase speed next year quite a bit.

Tida

We saw passion in her eyes for dance when we first met Tida. This young girl has a vast imagination & creativity that can’t be compared to anyone else here. Every time we’ve seen her perform it’s as if she just learned a completely new style of dance & added it to her skillset, from Yoga, to Bellydance, to Pantomime she adds it all together well. Can’t wait to see more of Tida in 2009.

YOSHIE

YOSHIE to us is like the little Princess of Belly Dance in Tokyo. A professional model, actress, instructor & dancer. We’ve only seen her perform a few times but she’s already performing with many of the top dancers in Japan. Her background also includes playing piano & years of classical ballet. We’d love to see her compose her own music for her shows. Now that would be great.

Wakako

From Devadasi Studio & member of popular belly dance group Samanyolu, Wakako is another dancer we expect to be a little bit visual next year. Young, cute, sexy & when she dances she has a charming smile on her face that looks like nothing in the world matters at this moment. Wakako is already a pro & is sharing stages with her senior members of Samanyolu but with popular dancers in the group such as Tanishq, Sali, & Hayati it might be hard for this gem to get seen. We expect Wakako to have a great career in belly dance. Wakako also is the creator of popular bellydance site Belly Port.

Nisaa

Nisaa is one of the most elegant & graceful dancers amongst new faces in belly dance. A former child model Nisaa already has many female fans because of her beauty, & style. Truthfully there are not many dancers in Tokyo that compares to her elegance, grace, & sensual performance. Since she hasn’t been in Belly Dance too long we know that all of this just her natural aura. She’s already in demand as a performer & we know that she will keep getting better as a professional dancer.
